Mercedes-Benz prepares their mid-sized crossover

Mercedes-Benz is making good use of their E-Class platform. Following the release of the E-Class All-Terrain, the automaker is busy preparing the next-generation GLE-Class. Two years ago, Mercedes-Benz renamed their SUV line to include the 'GL' prefix and the GLE-Class serves as the successor of the ML-Class.

We have seen photos of the brand's mid-sized crossover in the past but this time, our spies have caught it with less camouflage. This gives us an opportunity to have a better look at Mercedes-Benz's upcoming SUV. At the front, there is a large grill, aligning itself with the X-Class pickup. Not much of its headlights can be seen but it also comes with LED units and a new light signature. The clamshell-look hood has been lifted from the current GLE-Class.

A closer look at the side sees cladding around the wheel arches and there is a prominent character line near the bottom of the doors. In line with the current GLE-Class, the window line sweeps upwards while the third window kinks downwards. Compared to the current model, the rear quarter panel is more prominent in the new model.

Our spies were also take a snap of the interior as well. While still mostly covered, one can see that the dashboard has been reshaped, adapting to the current design language of the brand. Like in the current E-Class, expect a wide dash that houses a large infotainment screen along with a digital instrument cluster. Also seen is the electronic column shifter which the marque has been using since the first half of the decade.

The engine lineup has yet to be confirmed but do expect it to be carried over from the current E-Class and E-Class All-Terrain. It starts with a turbocharged 2.0-liter diesel engine and moves up to a 3.0-liter, also a turbodiesel. As for its gas lineup, the GLE-Class may see the introduction of the new inline-six engines. V8 power might also be available, as well as a hybrid option.
