Subaru upgrades the 2015 BRZ with STI tweaks
A high performance variant of the updated BRZ has just been launched in Japan as Subaru Tecnica International Inc. (STI), the tuning arm of the Japanese automaker, recently introduced the 2015 BRZ ts STI.
Billed by STI as a 'complete car' that delivers agile handling performance and a 'high-quality' ride, the 2-door sports coupe gets an upgrade in its exterior, interior and handling.
Cosmetically, the BRZ is wrapped in a STI bodykit that consist of a front under spoiler, custom front and rear bumpers with a cherry red accent, black side mirror caps and black shark fin antenna. Black is also applied to the 18-inch aluminum wheels while a set of 225/40/ZR18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires provide the necessary grip.
Aboard the coupe, it has custom STI gauges, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, STI push-button start, Recaro bucket seats upholstered in Alcantara with red stitching, Alcantara door trims, side sill plate with STI logo, and a carbon fiber-trimmed instrumental panel.
Under the hood, it is still powered by the familiar 2.0-liter FA20 Boxer engine that delivers 200 PS and 205 Nm of torque to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
Helping the car perform better around corners is a set of STI-tuned suspension components. The front axle benefits from an inverted-strut suspension with coil springs along with a flexible draw stiffener and a V-shaped strut bar. The rear axle on the other hand has revised dampers and coil springs. In addition, the car also has a large diameter driveshaft and a modified Vehicle Dynamics Control.
The car has also been fitted with a set of Brembo disc brakes. The front calipers benefit from 4-piston calipers while the rear gets 2-piston calipers.
It will only be limited to 300 units and will be available in three colors: Crystal White Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and Sunrise Yellow. The company is already accepting orders and have already stated that prospective buyers can make a deposit until October.
The manual version of the car retails for JPY 3,990,000 (about PhP 1.470 million) while the automatic variant is priced at JPY 4,071,000 (about PhP about PhP 1.5 million).
