The WRX and WRX STI are back and in top form.
MotorImage, the distributor of Subaru in the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia and Southern China have just held the Asian regional launch of the 2014 Subaru WRX and 2014 WRX STI at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
Previewed at the 2014 Manila International Auto Show, the 2014 Subaru WRX and WRX STI will soon be ready in showrooms in the Philippines, with deliveries starting in May according to Mike Luyun, General Manager of MotorImage Pilipinas.
As with previous generations, the WRX and WRX STI are both based on the Subaru Impreza, albeit Fuji Heavy Industries (the parent company of Subaru) chose to drop the Impreza badge for the two high performance sport sedans. Both are bred at the Nurburgring to test and develop their handling and outright performance.
The 2014 WRX gets a new 2.0 liter turbocharged and intercooled direct injection boxer engine that makes 268 horsepower. Transferring that power to the ground is Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive System via CVT (Sport Lineartronic).
The 2014 WRX STI is the range topping version. The 2.5 liter turbocharged and intercooled boxer engine is a carryover from the previous generation, providing the WRX STI with 300 horsepower. Taking care of power delivery is a 6-speed manual transmission and Symmetrical All Wheel Drive. Take note, the WRX STI does not come with a rear wing as previous generations have had.
Both the WRX and WRX STI get Variable Torque Distribution and Vehicle Dynamics Control.
