7-seater MPV to challenge compact MPV market
Suzuki Philippines will be launching the Ertiga MPV in late June according to very reliable sources. This development comes after the company released teaser billboards of the upcoming model and announced on their website that the model is coming soon. The Swift-based 7-seater MPV was developed in Indonesia to go against the Daihatsu Xenia and Toyota Avanza.
The Ertiga will be powered by a K14B 1.4-liter 16-valve 4-cylinder gasoline engine rated at 95PS@6000rpm and 130Nm@4000rpm of torque mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. It will be sourced from the Maruti Suzuki facility in India, where Suzuki Philippines sources many of its vehicles.
A diesel version is also offered for the Indian market, but it will not be offered to the Philippines as of the moment. The Ertiga comes as an eager challenger to the Toyota Avanza.
This will be the second new model introduction for Suzuki in the Philippines for 2014, following the Swift 1.2-liter later this month. The Japanese automaker has been rather quiet for the past year with their automobile business unit without offering anything significantly new save for the yet another revision of the Alto and the rather obscure looking Swift Dzire sedan.
