Book R&E and MGE taxis via mobile app

Local taxi companies R&E and MGE have joined the GPS-enabled booking system which allows passengers to digitally hail a cab through a mobile application.

Like other taxi booking apps, R&E and MGE use their respective mobile applications to take bookings and assign them to the nearest available taxi in the area.

Equipped with Global Positioning Systems (GPS), taxi drivers can receive bookings based on the data gathered from the mobile app.

Citing R&E's app as an example, passengers need to provide necessary information such as name, mobile number, pickup address, pickup point and destination before booking. Then, details of the booking will be displayed on the app's 'Status' page. As soon as a taxi has been assigned to a passenger, the booking status will be updated with the details of the taxi as well as its estimated time of arrival.

R&E charges an additional PhP 50 on top of the metered fare when an individual uses its mobile booking app.

On the other hand, MGE's app requires passengers to log-in using their Facebook or Google mail account. Then, passengers need to enter the pickup location as well as the destination. As soon as this information is punched in, the estimated distance and estimated fare will flash on your mobile screen. The name and photo of the taxi driver will be shown once your booking is finalized.

In addition note, MGE says their drivers won't be able to see the desired destination of each passenger in order to eradicate the system of contracting fares. Paolo Enriquez of MGE Taxi said that passengers can report drivers who contract fares.

“We encourage passengers to report drivers who are contracting fares in order to take proper disciplinary action,” Enriquez said.

As of this writing, MGE's app is under the beta testing phase. In this regard, MGE will not be charging a booking fee so as to encourage customers to book using their app.

Moreover, bookings made through MGE's app will be serviced by EMP, Green Taxi and MGE; while R&E's app will be serviced by Nine Stars, Sturdy, EFE and R&E.

Passengers can easily download the R&E Taxi booking app from the Apple App store or Android Playstore while the MGE Taxi booking app is currently available on the Android Playstore.
