Kijang Innova steps up a notch
We've been so focused on the all new Toyota Vios in the Philippines that it took us a while to notice that our neighbor, Indonesia, is already getting a new Innova.
Toyota's Indonesian arm has released a thoroughly refreshed Innova, known as the Kijang there, the same name they used for the models that we called the Tamaraw and Revo.
It's not an all new model but in terms of design, the Indonesian Toyota Kijang Innova features a very different look with a larger front grille (similar to the Alphard) and a more rugged yet stylish lower bumper. The rear has also been updated with a revised tailgate, most notably a garnish that somewhat resembles the new Toyota 'flash' design.
Inside there aren't much in the way of changes, and the same applies to the engine choices: a 2.5L DOHC 16-valve Inline-4 turbodiesel and a 2.0L DOHC 16-valve VVT-i Inline-4 gasoline engine. Toyota Indonesia still hasn't installed the more powerful variable turbo version of the 2KD-FTV diesel found in the Hilux and Fortuner for the Innova.
The current Innova design for the Philippine market was launched by TMP in Boracay in January of 2012, while the same design was launched in Indonesia a year earlier.
Given that, could we see this update Innova on Philippine roads next year? We'll have to wait and see.
