New Yaris in Thailand gets bigger body but smaller engine
Toyota Thailand launched the 2014 Toyota Yaris in the ASEAN region on October 22. The next generation Yaris will be roomier for 5 passengers; however, it will use a smaller engine compared to that of the former model.
Based on the information released by Toyota Thailand, the new model will by 4,115 mm long, 1,700 mm wide, and 1,475 tall. Its dimensions have increased but the body will be sitting much lower to the ground.
As for the engine, the Thailand-released Yaris will be trading the 1.5 VVT-i engine for a much smaller 1.2 Dual VVT-i engine capable of 86 PS and 108 Nm. It will be equipped with MacPherson struts for its front suspension while the rear uses a torsion beam and coil springs with stabilizer bar.
With the 2014 Toyota Vios already launched in the Philippines last July, the 2014 Toyota Yaris will reach the local market some time next year. We also speculate that the new Yaris that will be sold here will share the same engine with the local Vios.
