2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 gets aggressive 1LE performance pack

With the standard Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 making its debut last year, the American automaker decided to release a faster, more track oriented model. With that, Chevrolet introduces the 1LE package for the Camaro ZL1, giving it suspension and aerodynamic upgrades over the standard ZL1 model.

The Camaro ZL1 1LE made its debut at the start of the Daytona 500 weekend. The most obvious difference is the carbon fiber rear wing, which will produce more downforce, keeping the rear planted. At the front, a new more aggressive front bumper featuring a larger front splitter and grille opening will help add more downforce and keep the engine cool.

Powering the ZL1 1LE is still the same 6.2-liter LT4 V8 found on the standard ZL1 producing 650 horsepower and 881 Nm of torque. However, the 1LE will only feature a 6-speed manual unlike the new 10-speed auto which Chevy has mentioned before.

Despite the exterior having a more aggressive look, the most significant change in the ZL1 1LE is the suspension. Instead of the ZL1's magnetic ride, the ZL1 1LE uses Multimatic's genius spool-valve dampers found on the Colorado ZR2 and the previous Camaro Z/28. Other suspension changes also stiffens up the car.

Overall, the ZL1 1LE has been able to lose 27kg thanks to some interior change as well. New 19-inch wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires sized 305s and 325s at the front and rear, respectively. Brembo 6 and 4 piston brakes provide stopping power.

According to Chevrolet, the new modifications help the car go three seconds faster than a standard ZL1 around GM's proving ground.
