New campervan based on current Transporter T6
Volkswagen introduces their modern interpretation of the campervan with the California. Based on the current Transporter T6, it comes with three equipment lines: Beach, Coast and Ocean. It is also available with Volkswagen's new and updated8 range of TDI and TSI engines with stop-start technology standard.
Volkswagen says the California is the perfect combination of a 7 seater van and a motorhome. The California Beach comes standard with a pop-top roof with two different layouts which includes either a 2-deck seat with storage compartment or folding 3-seater bench with multiflex board. The Beach variant of the California also comes with a removable picnic table and folding chairs that are mounted to the tailgate.
Moving up to the California Coast, it includes a cooking area that includes a stainless steel sink, a two burner stove and a 42 liter cooler. The model also comes with higher-end furniture with aluminum and wood accents.
The top of the line California Ocean adds more comfort features that include double glazed windows and a power pop-top roof. The Ocean also comes with LED lights with dim function and an auxiliary heating system
All Californias are equipped with a folding double bed in the "first floor". When extended, the pop-up roof has a sleeping area of 1.2 x 2 meters . The California is also available with AppConnect, Volkswagen's infotainment system. It is optional on the Beach and Coast variants and standard in the Ocean.
The initial engine lineup for the California is Volkswagen's range of TDI engines ranging from 84 to 204 PS. It will soon be followed by TSI gas engines with power outputs ranging from 149 to 204 PS.
