First petrol-powered VW PH model
It's finally here.
After a long wait since Volkswagen Philippines' brand launch last September and the formal inauguration of the VW BGC dealership, Automobile Central Enterprise, Inc. (ACEI) has now launched the latest generation of the model that made them a household name: the Beetle.
The three door hatchback features the signature Beetle design and silhouette with modern VW group design touches such as the bumpers, headlamps and creases. The model was originally launched in other markets in 2011.
The 21st Century Beetle (as it's branded) rides on the VW Group A5 platform which it shares with the Volkswagen Jetta and Golf. The Jetta was launched along with the rest of the VW Philippines lineup including the Polo, Tiguan, Touran and Touareg.
The examples that Volkswagen Philippines will be bringing in will get the 1.4 liter TSI turbo gasoline engine. It makes 160 PS and 240 Newton-meters of torque and is coursed through a 7-speed dual clutch Direct Shift Gearbox, or 7-speed DSG. A source has told us that a 6-speed manual version could also be brought in at a later date.
The Volkswagen Beetle 1.4 TSI is the first gasoline powered model of Volkswagen Philippines given the VW Group's initial fuel quality assessment in the country; local diesel was found to meet the standards while local gasoline needed some more tests.
The 21st Century Beetle will be offered as one variant only for now.
