Stunning debuts and concepts highlight 38th Bangkok Motor Show

The 38th Bangkok International Motor Show once again opened its doors to a host of regional and Thai domestic reveals of the latest prestige and mass market vehicles. Present this year are 32 automotive brands and 10 motorcycle marques, as well as major auto aftermarket names. Automakers chose to focus on alternative energy vehicles this year with plug-in hybrids, low-emission vehicles and electric vehicle concepts taking center stage for most.

Aston Martin set the stage for the Vanquish S, which makes its Asia Pacific debut in Bangkok. It was flanked by a couple of their new DB11s.

The Audi Q5 makes its ASEAN reveal at this year’s show. It shares the stage with the A5 coupe and Q2 compact crossover which make their local debuts.

BMW held the debut of the new 5 Series alongside the 740Le plug-in hybrid. Mini chose to debut the Countryman and Clubman John Cooper Works (JCW) edition.

Chevrolet brought in the new Corvette Stingray to welcome guests to its pavilion which celebrates 100 years of Chevy trucks with a restored Apache 10 on display. Sharing the stage with the new Colorado Storm edition was a new full-sized Silverado pickup.

Honda was perhaps the most popular brand at the show with two important reveals, the new CR-V with diesel engine option as well as the shapely Civic Hatchback; both models made their ASEAN debuts.

Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new E-Class Coupe and highlighted their new EQ technology featuring a full-range of plug-in hybrids.

Mitsubishi celebrates the brand's centennary with a 1/7-scale of its Model A, MIEV Evolution III and launch of a new 2WD version of the Pajero (Montero) Sport.

Niche Cars, distributor of Lamborghini and McLaren wowed the crowd with the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and McLaren 720S; both models recently made their global debuts at the Geneva Motor Show three weeks prior.

Rolls-Royce held the 'Southeast Asia debut' for the Wraith Black Badge which is identified by a blackened 'Spirit of Ecstasy' and reversed logo. The line hopes to attract younger buyers.

Making their public motor show reveals were the Isuzu mu-X, Nissan Navara Black Edition, Nissan Note, Subaru Impreza and Toyota Vios facelift. Porsche unveiled the new Panamera 4S sports saloon and once again brought the 919 hybrid LMP1 car to highlight their motorsport heritage. Volvo completes its 90-series lineup reveal with the V90 as part of their new common module architecture platform.

Bringing in their concepts and special models were Mitsubishi, Nissan and Toyota in the form of the MIEV Evolution III, NV200 e-Bio Fuel Cell and FCV concept, respectively.

Organizers are expecting at least 1.5 million visitors to attend this year’s show at the Impact Challenger Halls in Muang Thong Thani. Motor Show organizing committee Chairman Dr. Prachin Eamlumnow says that a total of 35,000 new cars are also expected to be sold by the different dealers exhibiting at the show.

With all the exciting debuts this year, we can't wait to see what's in store for the 39th edition of the Bangkok International Motor Show.
