Hi Mr. Gibs!
I just bought a second hand 2000 model Honda Civic SiR and would like to know more about aftermarket springs. I'm planning of lowering it to improve its appearance and handling. I have my family and the car is daily driven. Just want to ask which is better? A set of lowering springs or coilovers? I read a lot about springs but don't give me the technical specs I want to know. If you suggest lowering springs, how many inches do I have to lower my car without sacrificing comfort every time we travel and without changing the camber alignment to avoid incorrect tire wear? I don’t want my car scraping humps and road bumps when we're fully loaded going for a trip.
Any information from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for giving us more knowledge in the automotive industry and more power!

Dear Mike
Lowering springs or a damper kit (lowering springs with short stroke shocks) would be the only choices for you. Honda did sell a sport suspension upgrade for the Civic SiR before with a 1-inch ride height drop. A conservative ride height drop would be from 1 to 1.5 inches.
As for comfort, there is indeed a trade-off between this and performance. There is no such thing as a comfortable sporty suspension. There will indeed be a bit of harshness, but not to the extent of being annoying. As for camber and alignment, make sure you have the suspension aligned when you lower the car, while camber adjustments cannot be made to the Civic SiR.
If you do drive your car often fully loaded are afraid of scraping humps, then lowering is not for you.
