I have a 1996 Toyota Corolla XL with a 2E engine and a 1994 Liteace with a 5K engine. My problem is that both are gas guzzlers with the XL consuming an average of 8.5km/liter and the Liteace at 6km/liter. I already had both engines carburators overhauled and installed smaller jets. I change oil, filters and have a tune-up every 3,000 km or even earlier. What do you think is the cause of my problem here?

Dear Tony
The smaller jets seem to be a good way to improve your fuel economy. However, making the jets too small may also cause more guzzling because you'll end up pumping the accelerator pump nozzle more to get enough power, thus more fuel consumption. With the 2E engine, a decrease to 90 is good. The 5k liteace can benefit from 90 size also. Anything smaller than that will strangle the engine causing stumbles during part throttle. Thanks for writing.
