Mothballs

I've heard in some articles that adding naphtalene balls (mothballs) in your gasoline can increase the octane rating. Is this true and if so, would you recommend it?
Michael

Dear Michael

Adding mothballs was good back in the 50s and 60s when mothballs had a high amount of combustible solid chemicals need to evaporate the insecticide. This was good to increase the cetane rating of cars back then since high octane was expensive(im Talking about USA)nowadays, the napthalene that we have is more of pure insecticide so that they can last longer, thus cheaper and less effective now if ever you put it in your tank. In fact, they even clog the fuel jets and injector nozzle tips. Please don't try it. Thanx for writing
