Running on deficient oil level

I've recently checked my car's oil level and I found out that I've been using my car for who knows how long with the oil level on minimum. I don't really use the car that often and I never really realized that I haven't checked on the oil for quite some time already. What could be the consequences of this on my car's engine?

Michelle De Gorostiza

Dear Michelle,

It's a good thing you were able to address the minimum oil level problem immediately. The consequences of running out of oil is disastrous which will definitely lead to serious engine damage and huge repair bills. In some cases even up to the point of junking your engine if it goes beyond repair. What happens is that the lubrication dries out causing friction and overheating of the pistons and bearings getting your engine to get stuck up and eventually seizing. Just make sure you check your oil level every week and change your oil with the recommended oil and recommended time interval normally every 5000kms or every 6months. Your car will last a very long long time and it will love you for it. Thanx for writing.
