Hi Gibs,
I had my car installed with an after-market air filter (k&n) for carb and I just like to ask your opinion on having it cleaned by foam wash (the ones popularized by car wash shops), not with its K&N air filter cleaning kit. I must admit I find it a bit expensive, and I've friends who have their K&Ns cleaned in car wash shops. I've heard this is not adviseable since it may do more harm than good in the element itself, but is there really a more economical way of cleaning these?
Thanks in advance and more power!

Dear Robert,
The K&N has a very rugged and sturdy design and is warranted to take 1 million miles Using the original cleaning kit is the recommended method to for it to ensure optimum performance and durability, but unfortunately it is quite expensive. For more than 12 yrs now, every 4 months, I do a more economical way of cleaning my cone type K&N universal filter by using a cup of diesel fuel or kerosene, dip it, and wash it off with soap and water and dry it using pressurized air or let it dry out in the sun. Just make sure to spray the screen with a little wd40 before installing it so that it will still be able to trap the fine dust that might ruin your engine if you fail to do so. Thanx for writing.
