Good day to you. My car is a 1996 Mazda Familia, I have no problem with respect to its maintainance. But lately, I started to hear some noise from the rear wheel, so I let my trusted mechanic to check it out. He told me that I have to replace my wheel bearing.
But im bit confused,is it really neccessary to replace the whole wheel bearing including the hub? I think its only the wheel bearing that has a problem, and the whole pairs of it is quite expensive. Another thing is, what are the advantage and disadvantage of having my resonator removed? Thanks a lot, please enlightened me. God bless.

Dear Dennis,
Yup, unfortunately you'll have to buy the whole rear hub assembly as the wheel bearing of the old Familia is pressed fit way too much in unlike other compacts. You can buy a surplus hub instead, its cheaper at a fraction of the cost of a new one. Removing the resonator won't add more power, it will add more noise though. Have the whole exhaust system upgraded for more power, but bear more noise. Thanx for writing.
