I have a '96 civic vti with a matic tranny. I noticed that recently, it hasn't been shifting gears like its supposed to. It revs higher now before it upshifts, and while at cruising speeds, I have to back off the throttle a lot for it to even shift up!
It's becoming irritating to drive and consumes a lot of fuel. Could you tell me what may be the problem or how to get it fixed? Thanks and more power!!!

The ATF of the automatic tranny is probably the most neglected fluid that's hardly changed by the owners. I suggest you bring it to a service station, put it up on a car lifter and replace the ATF with a new factory specified ATF for your car. This will make your car shift better. Nevertheless, I do hope your transmission isn't damaged, burned or worn out yet due to neglect. Thanx for writing.
