A question of speed

Hi Mr. Gibs!

I drive a 2000 Ford Lynx GSi 1.6 manual transmission which I use on the highway everyday at odd hours and there is barely any traffic. My dad told me that I should be driving between 100 to 120 kilometers per hour to save fuel. My mom on the other hand, told me I should be driving between 80 to 100 kilometers per hour to save fuel. Which one would you recomend, since my engine is fuel injected?

I'm sorry to say this but your mom is better than your dad. Driving between 80-100 km/h is the best for a 1.6-liter engine because that is the most efficient performance of the engine. If you go 100-120 km/h your fuel mileage drops tremendously. No rocket science here, but rather the law of diminishing returns. Thanx for writing.
