I drive a Civic SiR, and have completed what is called the "Stage 1" upgrade, i.e., headers, air intake, exhaust system. I would like to proceed with further modification but I am ending up confused because my friends are offering lots of different advice. I suppose it's a case of "too many cooks spoiling the broth". At any rate, how should I now proceed with "Stage 2"? More particularly, I am looking for a way to improve power delivery in low and mid range rpm.
Thanks. Hope you can clear up the air for me!
Philip
Dear Philip
Stage 2 is in the area where you are talking about putting in mild cams or high lift cams for the B16A. Unless you spend on quality cams and not regrind, you are better off not touching the engine and just leave it there at stage 1. You can also go with a computer upgrade but it won't make too much difference in the mid range unless you do a major cylinder head work in your car. Most guys claim some two-bit mechanic ported and polished their head but it actually became slower because they just don't understand anything about air-fuel ratio and compression.
