Throttle body cleaning

My 96 Corolla GLi with 4AFE gas engine and with automatic transmission has an idling problem. After cold starts when the engine is warming up with the AC on, the idling is smooth. But when the time the engine has reached its normal operating temperature, the engine suffers from rough or erratic idling. This problem only occurs during AC operation. I got my car since
brand new and on its 8th year, I noticed that this probelm started. I have not since cleaned the throttle body or the fuel injectors. Also to give you a good idea, I usually run my fuel tank 3/4 from empty as most of my commutes are short city driving. Also from time to time, I add STP gas treatment usually when I fill up.

What's the best advice? Should I have my throttle body cleaned and the injectors? Or would it be best to use STP fuel injector cleaner first before the throttle body cleaning? And how much does it usually cost for these kind of jobs?

Dear Alan

Cleaning the T.B. would help a little, but its the idle up solenoid that
needs to be checked. Your idle up solenoid could have burned out already
throughout the years of operation. However,You can use a carburator cleaner
to spray the TB directly. The blast of spray like GUNK,STP,3M will instantly
remove the sludge.

I also suspect the erratic idling is also caused by a worn out Throttle
position sensor that gives out a wrong reading in the impedance to the
ECU. So is a set of clogged or poor spray pattern injectors thats filled with varnish from fuel deposits.

Thanx for writing.
