Blue Smoke from Exhaust

Dear Gibs,

hi, i would like to know what causes blue smoke on my exhaust and what repairs are needed to be done. i own a 1987 nissan stanza with a 1600cc engine. another thing is it seems to be consuming too much gas as i get 8-9 km/liter. do i neet to replace the jets on the carb. please help. thanks

Emil Palanca

Dear Emil,

If its blue smoke, your engine has blow by and needs an overhaul. Meaning, the oil is passing through the piston rings. You can rejet it with a size 85 or 90 unless you get a hiccup. Going 9kms to a liter is not so bad. Thats kinda good milege even for todays standards of EFI tech. Thanx for writing.
