Adventure clutch problems

I'm currently having problems with the clutch of my 98 adventure diesel. I used to have probelms shifting gears, so my mechanic put in a replacemnt repair kit for the clutch. I have no problems now with shifting, however after running for a while, the clutch pedal stiffens up, and at times I would feel the clutch would slide and the car loses power. Is there a problem already with the pressure plate, release bearing, etc.? I'm a bit confused because the mechanic claims there is no problem with the plate/disc because right from the start i had problem with shifting but the clutch was not stiffening up; he clams the repair kit might not be the right one. The auto supply store, who i personally know however says otherwise; they say the pressure plate/disc/bearing should be replaced. thanks in advance for the help!

Dear Tim,

Yes its the clutch disc thats worn out causing you to lose power as it slides.Have it replaced. Yup, you'll have to bring down the tranny to replace it. Any good service shop can do it. Thanx for writing.
