Hi Gibs,
What exhaust downpipe modifications are required after installing the headers?
Correct me if I am wrong but from what I understand, changes are to be made as follows:
-removal of the stock resonator (my Civic by the way has no catalytic converter--it's an LXi)
-replacement of the primary muffler to a bigger diameter (assuming a 2" downpipe spec)
-replacement of the secondary muffler to a bigger diameter
Also, what is required if I want to maintain a low noise system and still maintain that added power? Do I really need to remove the resonator? What type of muffler would you recommend considering the mode nowadays of using the 'teardrop' style of mufflers which I think mostly are loud in comparison to a chambered type? To maintain a low noise-power system, do I need to install a silencer to both primary and secondary mufflers?, a silencer only at the primary muffler? or a silencer only at the secondary muffler? Which set-up is best?
Hope to hear your inputs.
Thanks.

Dear Michael,
Thanks for your letter. My goodness, you really did your homwork eh? Well, all you pointed out are true and very right in terms of logically geting the best power versus noise. Unfortunately, there is no compromise, either, you get more power and you get more loud up to the point it becomes noisy, annoying, and blaring that your neighbors and people will look at you with disgust. I do suggest you go 2-inch all the way while keeping a 2-inch primary (resonator) and a 2-inch straight thru chambered secondary(mufler/silencer) you can only go so far in getting power even if you use a competition set up unless you change the pistons, cams, ecu, injectors and all that jazz. Just keep it a little larger than stock. As for your question regarding the teardrop shape,well....its your choice and taste. Good luck. Thanks for writing us. :)
