Exhuast dilemma

Hi, I'm Bryan. I have an EK4(SIR) and I want to replace my stock exhaust system which I think is 2-inches in diameter... I want to modify my full pipings to 2 1/2 inches or even bigger. I want to know if this idea of mine is advisable. Will it add or just lessen the performance of my car? What do you prefer? Thanks
Bryan

Dear Bryan,

The stock engine of the SiR will benefit a 2 and 1/4 inch all the way from manifold collector all the way to the tip. Although a slightly modified engine can do with a 2-1/2 inch diameter piping. Don't expect the exhaust shop to design something for you though. Go bigger than that and you'll end up losing torque and back pressure, thus go slower and lose more speed in your exhaust gasses and eventually slower aceleration. You can always buy an aftermarket exhaust system which has been designed to complement most applications. Thanks for writing.
