Hello Gibs,
I have a gas terrano and lately, it has been thirstier than usual, and engine 'pull' was really down, even having engine 'sinok' during the high gears. I had the car tuned at Nissan Balintawak, and the 'sinok' disappeared. However, gas consumption now is higher than what I was used
to. I also noticed that when I'm idling in the garage, the floor area hit by the muffler exhaust is wet. There is also a heavy smell of gasoline -- which leads me to suspect that not all the fuel is being burned.
I had emission testing done, and pasang-awa lang. Hmmm...I'm no expert, but I suspect the carb is not tuned properly -- resulting in excess fuel being wasted and just blasted out through the exhaust. Can you offer any idea? Better yet -- may alam ba kayo shops that I can visit? Sa Nissan casa kasi you have to be very early dahil sa pila ng sasakyan.
Thanks!

Dear Joel,
Yup, you are corect. The raw gas you smell is unburned fuel causing the excessive fuel consumption. The sinok or hesitation is caused by an improperly tuned carb. The nissan mechanic was very incompetent forgetting one of the vacum hoses into your carb resulting in a delayed transition. There is also a probability that the carb is dirty. Have it returned and demand for quality work to be done, if not, write their management and complain about the problem and tell them you'll report them to the media for their bad quality. Next time, ask for a waranty and if you have to wait and bark at the manager, do it. You have a right to get good quality work for the money you paid for. You can complain in motoringman72@yahoo.com or lifestyle@manilatimes.net and address the complaint to me so that ill write it in my column during saturdays.
Thanx 4 writing.
