Engine dilemma

Dear Gibs,

I have a 1996 Honda Civic with a SOHC Vtec Engine. I was wondering what kind or model is my engine, whether it is a B16A or otherwise? And what are the differences of the B16A, B16B and the others of the same kind? I get easily confused between these kinds of engines since I don't know what they are exactly.

Harold

Your engine is a variation of the D16 SOHC VTEC engine. Honda Philippines doesn't really tell exactly what's inside. It is in no way similar to the B16A. The B16A is found in the locally available Civic SiR. It is a DOHC VTEC engine rebadged as P6ZD1 locally. The engine produces a max power of 160ps@7800rpm. The B16B on the other hand is found in the Civic Type-R, it is a factory tuned variant of the B16A sharing the same block with the B18C only having a shorter stroke. You can read more about these on other Internet resources about Honda engines.
