BMW updates bikes for Euro 4; unveils Triple Black for 2017

BMW Motorrad is updating their line of bikes for 2017 to comply with new, stricter Euro4 regulations as well as provide facelifts and exciting new paint schemes. The changes will apply to the F 700 GS, F 800 GS, and the entire range of R 1200 motorcycles. The Euro4 measures entail always-on sidelights, noise reduction, lower emissions, and On Board Diagnostics (OBD). They will not affect power output and torque.

For the F 700 GS and F 800 GS lines, ride-by-wire will provide aids and modes including Rain and Road; the throttle controller claims to improve response. Enduro mode will be optional on the F 700 GS with Enduro Pro for the F 800 GS and F 800 GS Adventure in a Riding Modes Pro package. Enduro Pro mode, combined with ABS and Automatic Stability Control (ASC) will work in conjunction with off-road tires and will deactivate rear-wheel ABS for drifting ability. ASC and Electronic Suspension Adjustment will be optional.

New instrument panels will also be more readable and feature a new Malfunction Indicator Light alerting the rider of engine problems. Less emissions and noise will be achieved through the help of a newly designed exhaust and stainless steel silencer. A redesigned HP sports exhaust by Akrapovic will be offered as an original BMW accessory. Visibility on the road will be improved with new side reflectors on the forks.

The R 1200 series will receive new judder dampers and new shaft bearings for new transmission shafts. As per Euro4, the bikes will also be added with indicators and side lights. The R 1200 GS and GS Adventure will get instrument panel revisions, and optional accessories will include cylinder protection covers and crash bars. BMW Motorrad will offer Riding Modes Pro, ABS Pro, and a dynamic brake light (which strobes under hard braking) for the R 1200 RT, R, and RS.

Ocean Blue will no longer be available for the R 1200 GS and the GS Adventure with a special edition Triple Black added instead. The R 1200 RT will be getting Carbon Black, Alpine White, and Platinum Bronze schemes while doing away with Ebony metallic and San Marino Blue. The R 1200 R will be adding Racing Red and discontinuing Cordoba Blue and Light White, while the R 1200 R Sport will be available in White with a Cordoba Blue frame. The R 1200 RS will be dropping Granite Grey from its color options, with an R 1200 RS Sport variant coming in a combination of Magellan Grey and Light White.

BMW R 1200 Triple Black

The R 1200 GS Triple Black special edition is coming back by popular demand. The Triple Black follows the tradition of turning the beloved enduro into an all-black, stealthy piece of dark and aggressive beauty. The bike is a mix of Blackstorm and Dark Slate, accentuated by Agate Grey frames and striking silver bits throughout including its spoked wheels.
