BMW introduces the G 310 GS lightweight adventure touring bike

An all-new lightweight adventure touring bike has joined BMW Motorrad's lineup. Called the G3 310 GS, it is powered by a compact 313cc motor that sits on a steel tube spaceframe that blends city riding practicality and light off-road capability.

“As far as BMW Motorrad is concerned, GS is a promise – a promise of perfect functioning, reliability and robustness. The G 310 GS transfers these qualities to the below 500cc capacity segment, embracing them in its own distinctive, mature interpretation,” said BMW in a statement.

The exact size of the new G 310 GS was not revealed though the company did say it has a short wheelbase, along with fairly compact dimensions. It rolls on 19-inch wheels at front and 17-inch wheels at back, and has an extended suspension travel (7-inches) for better ground clearance.

As previously mentioned, it gets a roadster-derived steel tube spaceframe and a bolt-on rear subframe which provides just the right amount of stiffness for better steering and stability according to BMW. The front suspension gets inverted forks while the rear is fitted with a monoshock that is attached to a double-sided aluminum rear swingarm. Wet weight of the new BMW G 310 GS is at a light 169 kg.

At the heart of the new G 310 GS is the familiar 313cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder engine. Derived from the G 310 R, the motor puts out 34 PS at 9500 rpm along with 28 Nm of torque at 7500 rpm. It is then mated to a 6-speed transmission and a final chain drive.

Other standard tech on the new G 310 GS include: 2-channel anti-lock brakes (ABS) and a LCD screen that can monitor speed, rpm, tripmeter and other relative information.
