To reduce motorcycle accidents
In an effort to reduce accidents and violations resulting from wayward motorcycles along Commonwealth Avenue and Macapagal Boulevard, the MMDA will be enforcing strict motorcycle lanes.
Starting Monday, October 17, the 4th lane of Commonwealth Avenue and the rightmost lane of Macapagal Boulevard will be designated for motorcycles. Any motorcycle found using any other lane, unless making a U-Turn or a right turn, will be fined PhP 500 for every offense.
The lane will be distinguished by the large "Motorsiklo" signs.
Oddly enough, motorcycles will only be allowed on the designated lane, but the lane itself is not exclusive to motorcycles, as cars can also choose to take it.
The MMDA is now undertaking an information campaign to let affected motorists and riders about the new rules.
