Stephano Marcelo breaks track record by a second
GT Radial-Circuit Showdown, the nations home of the countries future talents, kicked off its fifth leg at the Batangas Racing Circuit, last July 7, 2012. Having over 60 participants for the Time Trial event and 25 cars in the Grid race. The participants came from as far as Cebu and Davao to take part of this prestigious event.
Through the stringent rules that have been enforced by Circuit Showdown organizers, it has proven itself as one of the ways one can get into professional car racing. “Circuit Showdown is your first and last step before becoming a Professional Racecar Driver”, says Dalia Pastor.
During the race, Stephano Marcelo, clocked in a time of 1.44’809 beating the track record by over a second and clocked almost 2 seconds ahead of Championship leader Carlos Anton for the Open Class.
Bracket B went to Toby Santiago, Chad Parian and JP Pacres while Jesse Manze extends his lead in Bracket C over Alan Arguelles & Marvin Cabreza. Davao driver Nico Canyete tops Bracket D followed by Mao Dy and Edwin Rodriguez.
Mitsubishi filled Bracket E goes to Lexter Sy, Alain Matias & Edward Pujol. Jeremy Jimenez, Patrick Suiza & Alex Ramos seal it off respectively for Bracket F.
The action didn’t stop there as the 7 lap sprint race saw Paolo Mantolino led from start to finish in Grid A race followed closely by Nino Garcia and Rafael Lao. Underdog Alan Arguelles again shows control outweighs horsepower edging former F3 driver Philip Alvendia and GT driver Bong Perez in Grid B. And Marcus Timbol takes Edward Pujol on the last lap followed by Sandy de Guzman in Grid C.
