The 4th and final round of the 2005 Jazz VTEC Media Challenge is scheduled for this Saturday, December 3, at the Carmona Racing Circuit. Additional chicanes and gates are going to be added to the already tight track to make it even more challenging and technical - a real test of the drivers' reflexes and driving skills.
As of the third round, Aris Ilagan, a Media Challenge founding veteran and senior reporter of the Manila Bulletin is on top of the individual standings with 81 championship points. He enjoys a gargantuan 24-point lead over his nearest competitor, Iņigo Roces of C! Magazine, who has 57 points. Past Best Driver awardee Anjo Perez (Manila Bulletin, 54 points), Jeff Reyes (Philippine Star, 48 points) and Andy Leuterio (Philippine Star/Action & Fitness Magazine, 45 points) are in3rd, 4th and 5th place, respectively. Completing the roster of participants with championship points under their belts are Charles Kim (Top Gear Magazine, 39 points, 6th place); James Deakin (C! Magazine, 36 points, 7th place); Manny de los Reyes (Philippine Star/Speed Magazine, 33 points, 8th place). Tied in 9th place with 24 points are Lester Dizon (Philippine Star), Popong Andolong (Daily Mirror), and Brian Afuang (Manila Times). Tied in 12th place with 15 points are Chris Van Hoven (C! Magazine); and Jess Garcia (DZRH). Rounding up the list are Bam Olivares (Daily Tribune, 12 points, 14th place) and Joey Lopez (Autoextreme, 9 points, 15th place).
For the team standings, 2-time Media Challenge champion Manila Bulletin holds the top spot with 84 points. Three points behind is Team Philippine Star, in 2nd place with 81 points. The men from Team C! Magazine with 72 points are in 3rd place. The teams from Top Gear Magazine and Manila Times/DZRH are tied at 4th place with 60 points, while Team Auto Review/Autoindustriya is in 6th place with 39 points. Other team points are: Team PDI / Daily Tribune /DZEC / Daily Mirror (30 points), Team
Manila Standard/DZMM (15 points), Team BusinessWorld/Autoextreme (12 points), and finally team ABS-CBN with 6 points.
The four Honda Jazz 1.5 VTEC competition cars are already prepped up for the beating they will get in the hands of the media speedsters - a feat they passed with flying colors in the previous three rounds. True to their slogan of "Power for Extra Miles," Petron Xtra Unleaded has provided the power needed by the racers to traverse the track while still providing excellent fuel efficiency. The OE Goodyear NCT 5 tires fitted in the cars have proven to provide excellent traction and handling in the varied track conditions in the previous rounds.
The 7th season of the Jazz VTEC Media Challenge is presented by Honda Cars Philippines and is supported by Petron Xtra Unleaded, Goodyear Tires, Igertech for the timing, Nodalo's Trading for the safety modifications, and Aitech for the stickers.
