Top 7 teams advance to final leg at SIR

The Ford Focus TRS Race of Champions Media Cup completed its second leg last Saturday determining the top seven teams who will battle it out in the championship round in Subic on November 7. The three-part race series' second run saw participants brave all weather conditions as they took on Autocross racing at the Greenhills open parking area on board the Ford Focus TDCi race car.

After combining accumulated points from the first and second leg, the top seven teams who qualified for the Ford Focus TRS Race of Champions Media Cup Finals are Philippine Star, Auto Industriya, Manila Bulletin, Auto Review, Top Gear, Uno Magazine, and Wave 89.9.

No amount of rain or wind deterred the racers' excellent performance as more exciting match-ups abound throughout the day. After a brief course on Autocross racing conducted by Tuason Racing School, participants geared up for their practice runs before two timed heats wherein the individuals' best times were combined and ranked to determine the day's fastest drivers.

For the second leg Autocross race, third place was taken by Team Autoindustriya.com composed of Vince Pornelos and Iigo Roces combined best time of 1 minute and 19.82 seconds. The team from TopGear, represented by Beeboy Bargas and Ferman Lao snatched second place with fastest times adding up to 1 minute and 18.85 seconds. The first place winners for the 2nd leg of the Race of Champions Media Cup was Team Philippine Star, composed of Jeff Reyes and Manny de los Reyes with an amazing combined time of 1 minute and 18.61 seconds. It was also from this top team where the competition saw the fastest racer of the day -Jeff Reyes from Philippine Star was recognized with a best individual time of a whopping 38.65 seconds.

These three teams who led the pack at the second leg are joined by four others to complete the top seven ranking teams who will race in a wheel-to-wheel course at the Subic International Race Way on November 7.

For the two other categories of the 2009 Ford Focus - TRS Race of Champions second leg, Ford consumers and Ford sales consultants representing various Metro Manila dealerships also engaged in some of the day's tight races.

For the category of Ford consumers third place winner Bobby Horrigan ended with a best of time 39.01 seconds whereas Carlos Pedrosa was awarded second place with his fastest time of 39.26 seconds. Audel Sison was declared the champion of the category for the first leg with a best time of 38.95 seconds.

The second batch of fearless racers for the day were the Ford sales consultants. Landing third place was the representative from Ford Edsa, Carlo Malapitan with a fastest time of 43.04. Paul Baradas of Ford Edsa earned second place with his best time of 42.08 seconds and declared winner was Ford Alabang's bet Sonny Galban with an excellent time of 41.36 seconds.

Spectators of the exciting event get in on the action by trying out the Ford Focus TDCi and the rest of Ford's line-up of vehicles through test drives on the final race at the Subic International Raceway (SIR).
