WTCC is the perfect place to showcase the Honda Civic

Honda recently started testing its Civic WTCC race car at the Vallelunga Circuit in Italy and is piloted by 2009 WTCC champion Gabriele Tarquini.

"To see the finished Civic finally on the race track is an extremely emotional moment for the whole team. I am so proud of everyone involved. They have managed to accomplish so much in such a short period of time.” said Alessandro Mariani, Team Principal of Honda Racing Team JAS

Honda has announced that it will join three races in this year's FIA World Touring Car Championship and will enter one car driven by Tiago Monterio starting this October over at Suzuka.

The 2012 Civic WTCC race car was also unveiled to the public, its extended front and rear bumpers are easily noticable along with some other additional aerodynamic improvements.

The Civic WTCC is powered by the HR-412E, a completely bespoke 1.6 liter 4 cylinder direct injection turbo-charged petrol engine, fully conforming to FIA regulations for the WTCC.

Both Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro will compete for Honda in the full FIA World Touring Car Championship in 2013.
