The excitement builds up for the second round of the Jazz VTEC Media Challenge slated for Saturday, October 29, at the Carmona Racing Circuit. Expected to attend the event are the 10 media teams who are vying for this year's championship.

After the inaugural round held last September 24, two-time champion Manila Bulletin holds the top spot with 30 championship points, followed by C! Magazine with 27 points, and Philippine Star with 24 points. Top Gear Magazine is in 4th place with 21 points, while the Manila Times / DZRH Team occupies 5th with 18 points. Completing this year's line-up are the teams from Phil Daily Inquirer/Daily Tribune/DZEC/Bandera (with 15 points), BusinessWorld/Autoextreme (12 points), Auto Review/Autoindustriya (9 points), ABS-CBN (6 points), and Manila Standard Today/DZMM (3 points).

Twelve people currently occupy the top 10 positions in the individual category. In 1st place is Charles Kim of Top Gear Magazine with 30 pts; 2nd place is held by Aris Ilagan of Manila Bulletin with 27 pts; in 3rd and 4th places are James Deakin and Iigo Roces of C! Magazine with 24 and 21 pts, respectively. Tied for 5th place are Media Challenge veterans Lester Dizon of Philippine Star and Anjo Perez of Manila Bulletin both with 18 pts each; in 7th place is Daily Tribune's Bam Olivares with 12 pts; newbie Joey Lopez of Autoextreme came in 8th with 9 pts; and tied in 10th place are Chris Van Hoven of C! Magazine, Popong Andolong of Manila Bulletin, and Brian Afuang of the Philippine Star with 3 points each.

The 7th season of the Media Challenge tests the power and performance of the new Honda Jazz 1.5 VTEC, which are the official competition vehicles. Participants say that the car is fun to drive, and perfect for the circuit, due to its agile handling and quick response.

Meanwhile, official fuel Petron Xtra Unleaded has also proven that indeed, it can provide "Power For Extra Miles," as less than 1/4 of a full tank was consumed by each competition car through an entire day of racing. The Goodyear tires also proved hardy enough, taking the screeching starts, hard braking and cornering of the speed-hungry competitors. Its excellent qualities must have been the deciding factor for its choice as the OEM tire for the Jazz 1.5 VTEC.

With racing legend Pocholo Ramirez giving pointers as the series' race director, Round 2 promises to pose more excitement and challenges for the competitors. Other sponsors include Nodalo's for the race-safety modifications, IgerTech and the Kabankalan Off-Road Enthusiasts for the infrared timing device and automated race results, and AITECH for the car stickers.

This club event is sanctioned by the national auto club, Automobile Association Philippines, and is organized by ADBM Resources.
