Details are scant but it will be fully rally-capable version of the GT86 that you can take to the WRC
True to their rally heritage, Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) will develop a GT86 rally car according to WRC R3 regulations to beef up their customer motorsport programme.
Known as the TMG GT86 CS-R3, TMG engineers will modify it to the fullest allowable level in the R3 guidelines. It will sport a 6-speed sequential gearbox, limited slip differential, a modified engine, adapted brakes and other upgrades. Private competitors can expect delivery by 2015.
As Toyota Team Europe in the late 70’s, they have gone on to win 4 driver’s and 3 manufacturer’s World Championships. After launching the Yaris R1A and with the current development of the Global Race Engine, TMG is concentrating on enhancing their knowledge to find continued success in their long-term involvement in the sport.
Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport said "Rallying is in our blood at TMG so it is very exciting to announce that we will be expanding our rally operations. The GT86 CS-R3 promises to be a thrilling car on the rally stages; with rear-wheel drive we can expect some dramatic action which is sure to be entertaining for drivers and fans alike. Through our experience with the TMG GT86 Cup and the TMG GT86 CS-V3 race car we have built a solid infrastructure for customer motorsport over the past few years. We will draw on this to deliver a reliable, safe and high-performance car, plus all the required technical support, for our customers. We expect demand to be high so we are looking forward to seeing a lot of GT86 CS-R3 rally cars in action from the beginning of the 2015 season."
Full specification and pricing of the TMG GT86 CS-R3 will be announced soon.
