it depends on what need and plan to do.

if all you want is DIY carwash, I suggest you get the following:
1. Car Shampoo
2. Wash Mitt
3. Chamois
4. Tire Black
5. Sponge

and you're set! Wink

if you plan to do a DIY wax/ exterior detail, you'll need the following:

1. Clay Bar
2. Car Polish/ Glaze (optional)
3. Car Wax (paste or liquid, up to you!)
4. Microfiber Towel Plush - for buffing/ removing wax
5. Applicator Pads (if the wax/ polish didn't come with their own applicator)

oh, you might want to try the Micro Magic brand of products! they're quite cheap!  Thumbs up

sir,

How old should a car be or what condition should the car's paint be in for a clay bar to be necessary?
For a new car, is Shampoo then polish then wax sufficient?

Thanks!

1.wash w/car shampoo
2.claybar (if necessary, usually once in 2 months lang)
3.3M hand glaze
4.Mother's California Gold Carnauba wax

Carnauba wax is already "old school". "Synthetic" sealants like Meguiars NXT 2 and "Acrylic" sealants like Klasse/Carlack 68 are so much better. Though there are some really good carnauba waxes like P21S. Lately I've been using Autoglym Super Resin Polish and it's so good at hiding scratches and deepening the color it's like a Glaze and a Sealant in one package.

oh i see. is it true that sealants last longer than waxes? i don't know if i'm gonna believe a guy who told me that sealants can last up to 4 months, of course depending on frequency of usage. i was already contented with 3M hand glaze and carnauba waxes so I was not aware of such sealants. for your first question, wash and dry your car first, then try feeling its newly cleaned surface with your bare hands. if it feels rough, its surface has contaminants like asphalt, concrete, etc, embedded to it already!  Shocked

for a new car, I think shampoo and wax are sufficient already. it's still new, so its paint is still in good condition! so there's no need to use polish!  Wink

for the thread starter, I advice you to be flexible with your choice of detailing products. even Big Bert's uses a variety of brands!  Evil 5

3M Hand Glaze is one of the best Glazes but it requires so much hard work to use it. Sealants last longer than wax but as to how long it would really depend on how often you wash or clean your car and whether it's parked outside or in a garage.

Regardless of the car's age, it needs to well prepped before a waxing session.  Before tryin on any wax, make sure you have the tough dirt and asphalt spots removed by claybar.  In my experience, sealants do not last more than a month given the harsh environment and dirty conditions we have here.  The best regimen for me is weekly waxing.

@z_lynx

Skip mo na lang yung Step 2 since NXT ang gagamitin mo. May cleaners kasi yung NXT so matatagal lang din nya yung step 2 na nilagay mo.

I would skip step 1 and 2 after claying and go straight to applying NXT 2 unless you have swirl marks, then apply step 2 before the NXT.
