So you've decided to take the plunge and try driving something that's electrified. That's the way to go for the future, as carmakers all over the world are pursuing advanced technologies to reduce the impact on the environment, as well as deliver a unique and better driving experience.
But where do you begin? How do you introduce yourself to this new and bold future of motoring? Driving something electrified presents its own set of unique challenges, and they're major enough that they can deter even the most committed amongst us to this future, or cause concern as the charge goes down, and you're stuck in traffic.
Lexus, however, has an answer.
They call it Lexus Hybrid Drive, and it's been around far longer than many of us may think. And if you have a few minutes to spare, we think we can explain why it's the perfect first step you can take in driving, owning, maintaining, and enjoying what the future of the automobile has to offer.
1. No need to change your driving mindset
There are some that are concerned that an electrified vehicle means that their maximum range will be limited by the EV infrastructure, or particularly our country's lack of it.
But the thing with a Lexus hybrid is that you won't be limited by infrastructure. This vehicle does not need to be plugged into a special outlet or any other kind of electrical outlet for that matter. You see, Lexus Hybrid Drive is a system that maximizes the advantages of a gasoline engine and an electric drive system to come up with a vehicle that isn't shackled down by our widespread lack of charging stations.
The gasoline engine in a Lexus hybrid isn't just a means of getting the car or SUV moving, but also a charging source for the batteries of the electric drive system. That means you won't have to worry about not finding a charging station because your Lexus will charge itself as you drive. That means more exploring, even in fairly remote or naturally pristine parts of the country.
Range anxiety is something you'll experience in an electric vehicle, but not in a Lexus with Hybrid Drive.
2. Superb fuel range and economy
The real edge that Lexus Hybrid Drive gives is its fuel economy and subsequent increase in range across the board compared to their non-hybrid counterparts.
Among the Lexus sedans, the improvement is very remarkable. The midsize Lexus GS in hybrid trim, the GS450h, can drive 15.87 km per liter of fuel. Compared to the GS350 F Sport which doesn't have a hybrid system and can register 10 kilometers for every liter, that's a 58% improvement. In the category of the ultra-luxurious Lexus LS, the LS500h can go 15.15 kilometers for every liter of fuel, while the non-hybrid LS500 does up to 10.5 km/l; a 44% improvement in fuel economy.
In the SUV category, the compact Lexus NX can achieve a fuel economy figure of 17.54 km/l. That's a significant 39% fuel economy improvement over the non-hybrid Lexus NX300 which can already return a respectable 12.65 kilometers per liter. The larger Lexus RX reflects a major increase in fuel economy because just like the NX300h, the RX450h can achieve 17.54 km/liter. That is a massive 65% improvement over the non-hybrid RX350 which can go 10.63 kilometers for every liter of fuel.
The reason behind these huge improvements in fuel economy is the fact that the electric drive system can take over a significant part of the load, most notably in traffic. With a voltage in the battery from the self-charging hybrid system of Lexus, the engine can take a rest and let the electric drive system do the work, especially in slow urban traffic.
Also, there is a significant reduction in harmful carbon dioxide emissions compared to their non-hybrid versions. The NX300h emits 27% less CO2 than the NX300, the GS450h emits 37% less CO2 than the GS350 F Sport, and the RX450h emits 40% less than the RX350.
3. Excellent service and warranty
When it comes to service, there isn't a need to worry either: every Lexus hybrid provides a hassle-free ownership experience.
Lexus prides itself on making fantastic vehicles, and their hybrids are proof positive of that. While there are some that are apprehensive about advanced technology, for years Lexus Hybrid Drive has been proven to work and proven to last. Moreover, there are no additional servicing costs with Lexus hybrid electric vehicles.
When you do need to take your Lexus hybrid for servicing, you can do so at their grand Lexus Manila, Inc. (LMI) dealership. For 10 years now, Lexus has been a beacon for satisfied customers in the Philippines not just for their products, but for the experience. It comes as no surprise that the brand has been consistently honored by J.D. Power thanks to the experience they provide to their customers
And if you live outside of the capital, Lexus has accredited service centers in Cebu, Davao, Laguna, La Union, and Pampanga to ensure your hybrid continues to save you fuel, money, and reduce your emissions for every kilometer your drive.
4. Luxury, comfort, style
There are those that think that by driving something more eco-friendly, that means that you have to compromise on the creature comforts; the things that make your daily drive all the more special.
Lexus wants to turn that notion of compromise on its head.
Every Lexus is built to provide customers with the utmost in style, in quality, in comfort, and everything else in between. And for hybrids, they simply added efficiency through their advanced Lexus Hybrid Drive technology.
You won't see a Lexus hybrid look or feel less than its non-hybrid counterparts. In fact, they'll feel better and quieter, especially when the engine shuts down to let the electric drive system do the work.
And each Lexus is by their Takumi craftsmen, all the more to deliver the experience expected of them, which is nothing short of amazing. And they've been building cars this way since 1989.
5. Many vehicle options and sizes
Owning a Lexus hybrid doesn't mean you're stuck with one vehicle type. The brand actually has the widest variety of vehicles featuring its proven hybrid electric drive technology.
The entry point into driving a Lexus hybrid is the CT200h, a compact hatchback fit for the successful up and coming professional. The CT gives a youthful vibe to hybrid ownership with a refined style, fun drive, and high-quality build that Lexus is known for.
If its extra ground clearance you desire, then there's the NX300h, a compact crossover for someone who wants to do a bit more exploring and do it in style. The NX300h offers the versatility of the crossover with the maneuverability and fun driving characteristics of a compact hatchback. And being a hybrid, you'll be consuming far less as well.
If you prefer to drive something more exciting, then the GS450h might be the right fit for you. This midsize sedan car impresses at first glance with its presence on the road and will excite even more at first drive with its smoothness, silence, and handling. The GS450h is the ideal hybrid for someone who likes to be driven, as well as someone who enjoys driving.
If space is what you need for your family, then the RX450h would fit the bill nicely. There's comfortable space for 5 adults, and all will enjoy the luxury and comfort that the RX offers, as well as the assurance of safety and eco-friendly driving. And if you need more cargo room, you can fold down the rear seats to get more space for your gear, or your shopping spree.
But the crème de la crème of the Lexus hybrid line is undoubtedly the Lexus LS500h. As the flagship of Lexus, the LS500h represents the pinnacle of luxury with its handcrafted interior and striking style and does it all with the efficiency of its Lexus Hybrid Drive system. This is for the discerning individual that wants no compromise in their automobile.
