Another year and another Chinese automaker is staging a comeback in the Philippines. That company is Changan, and it might not be a brand many might remember. But they're back, and they say they're better than ever. This time around, they want to make sure you look at their products.

But before we dive into that, what are the foundations of the latest automaker to land in the country? It may not seem like it, but Changan has been building cars since 1959. Their first car called the Changjiang Type 46, and it is said to be China's first production vehicle.

Of course, a lot has happened over the decades. Over 60 years have passed since the first Changan-made car rolled off the assembly line, and they've expanded exponentially since. These days, they have over 20 vehicle assembly lines, making Changan part of China's Big Four automakers. They even shifted over five million cars within the past five years alone.

So, what does Changan have to offer in the Philippines? Their arsenal consists of five models, namely a sedan, three crossovers, and even an electric vehicle. So, what's to like about them?

Alsvin

• It's affordable

The Alsvin range starts from PHP 539,000 to PHP 639,000. There are three variants to choose from, namely the 1.4 M/T, the 1.5 DCT, and the 1.5 DCT Platinum. If you're curious, the mid-spec 1.5 DCT retails for PHP 599,000

• It's stylish

It may be the most affordable Changan, but it's not short on style. All variants feature a design that can be called modern and contemporary. You get sharp, defined lines at the front end, and the same goes for the rear. You can even call it distinct.

• It's feature-packed

Select variants come with a touchscreen and a multi-function steering wheel. The Alsvin is also one of the most affordable cars available today with a blind spot camera and stability control.

• It's available with a sunroof

Opt for the range-topping Platinum and you get a feature you don't usually get at this price point, a sunroof. With that, the Alsvin is the most affordable new car today with a standard sunroof.

• Stability control standard

Airbags and anti-lock brakes aren't enough these days. Stability control and traction control are quickly becoming a must in cars. It's a good thing then that the Alsvin 1.5 DCT Platinum comes standard with that life-saving feature.

CS 35 Plus

• Not so subcompact

It may not seem like it, but the CS35 Plus actually sits in the subcompact crossover market. The thing is, looks bigger than its category suggests. So, what's the trick here? It's all down to the styling. The squared-off edges gives it a more imposing look and it makes 4.3 meters look longer than it seems.

• Cozy interior

Step inside the CS35 Plus and you're greeted by an interior with smooth and gentle curves. At the same time, it offers a lot of room in there. As far as subcompact crossovers go, you can relax and stretch out, thanks to its generous legroom.

• All about tech

• Turbo power

Under the hood is a 1.4-liter Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection engine, that's good for 158 PS, making it one of the most powerful in its class. Forced induction also gives it a lot of torque, as this compact engine puts out 235 Nm of torque. The best part is, you can use all of it without revving the engine high.

Changan image

• It's under PHP 1 million

Yes, you read that right. This subcompact crossover is yours for PHP 999,000. Sure, it's just a hair under PHP 1 million, but it's packing a lot of tech and features for the money.

CS75 Plus

• That front end

The CS75 Plus is, perhaps the most daring-looking of the group. Just look at that front end. It's pretty in your face, don't you think? If sharp lines and angles are your thing, you have to see it in person. It's bold, daring, and distinct.

• Love red? You'll love this

To complement its radical exterior, this crossover has several red highlights that pop out. You have it on the grille, the front bumper, and even on the sides. That daring theme continues inside. If you like red, then you're in for a treat. It's all over the dash, door panels, and even the seats.

• Attention-grabbing features

Greeting you on board the CS75 Plus is a dual-screen arrangement that includes the digital instrument panel and comprehensive 12” infotainment system. The CS75 Plus also comes equipped with a curbside camera, a 360-degree view camera, plus a tire pressure monitoring system. Like the CS35 Plus, it also has a panoramic sunroof to let the sunlight in.

• Performance

With its 1.5-liter Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection engine, the CS75 Plus lays down 178 PS on the road. You could say that's a good amount of power for a compact SUV, so you can also be confident about its passing power. But if you need to haul stuff, its torque rating of 265 Nm will make short work of that

Changan image

• Undercutting the competition

The price? It retails for PHP 1,229,000. With similarly-sized models hovering around the PHP 1.5 million to PHP 2 million, you'll save a ton with the CS75 Plus. It's not like it's bare either, too. On value alone, it's worth a look.

CS95

• The size

If you want your crossover large, then look no further than the CS 95. How big is it, you ask? It's nearly five meters long. This crossover is properly massive, and that bold front end sure has a lot of presence. It's further emphasized by the imposing flanks and the tall tailgate.

• True seven-seater

As it's the biggest of all the Changan models, the CS 95 comes with three rows of seats, making this a seven-passenger crossover. It's not cramped in there either, and the sliding second-row seats mean everyone can enjoy the room the CS 95 offers.

• Tech and luxury in one package

While you're in there, you're greeted by loads of leather and premium materials, not to mention that huge 12.3” infotainment screen that houses almost all the controls of the CS 95. What about the features, you ask? This luxury crossover comes standard with a panoramic sunroof, a 10” LCD digital instrument cluster, curbside camera, and a 360-degree view camera.

• Cooled seats for the win

Leather and heat don't go together well. Park a car with those seats and you're bound to get singed. This is why it's worth mentioning the CS 95's chilled seats. Yes, it comes with ventilated seats, perfect for hot summer days.

• Secure handling with ESP

The mark of a safe vehicle isn't just with its crash test performance, it should also be able to avoid an accident from happening in the first place. That is why the CS 95 is equipped with ESP or the Electronic Stability Program. It assists the crossover in an emergency maneuver by reeling in power and putting on the brakes for better control. With that, you have the confidence to take on surprises on the road.

Eado EV 460

• It's green, but it doesn't shout about it

Some electric cars look like science experiments on wheels. That's not the case with the Eado EV 460. It may look like a standard sedan on the outside, but it boasts the latest tech used in electric vehicles. And here's a fun fact for you, the Eado EV 460 makes Changan the only Chinese automaker at the moment that offers a full EV.

• The battery

Changan's EV is powered by a “three-in-one Electric Drive” system. Charging up those motors are ternary lithium batteries. So, what does that mean? You get a longer range out of a single full charge, 460 kilometers, to be exact.

• The drive modes

The Eado EV 460 comes with three drive modes, namely Eco, Normal, and Sport. Eco helps you save up on range, while Normal keeps things nice and balanced. But if you want more performance out if its electric motor, then Sport mode will definitely please the enthusiast.

• Immediate response

Electric motors are renowned for instant response. The Eado EV 460 is no exception to that. Its motors put out 245 Nm of torque, but the best part is, you get all of it the moment you step on the pedal. So you get the power of a turbocharged engine without putting out any emissions.

• Charging times

One of the concerns about electric vehicles are the charging times. Thankfully, Changan's EV can be charged quickly. How fast, you ask?  It only takes thirty minutes to charge 30%-80%. From 0-80%, it only takes fifty minutes. But what if you don't have a fast charger in your home? Not to worry because plugging it in overnight will give you a full charge for the next day. Besides, with 460 kilometers of range, you won't be charging that often.

Changan image

An interesting product range, indeed, but what about sales and service? You don't even have to worry about the dealership network. Right now there are 15 sales and service centers nationwide. Not only that, Changan is offering a five-year, 150,000-kilometer warranty on all their vehicles. With that, you can tell Changan is serious about leaving a good impression on its customers, and reassure them with after-sales service.

Changan image

Step inside any Changan model and you feel an air of quality. The materials feel high-grade, and every button and dial you touch doesn't feel flimsy. And speaking of air, you even get N95 cabin air filtration in all of their crossover models. That, along with a comprehensive standard features list on all models, Changan wants to prove that style, quality, safety, and technology don't have to come with a steep price tag.

With that, now is a good time to check out Changan's range. While you're at it, why not take them out for a test drive? Some of them might even surprise you.
