Those who frequent the length of West Avenue in Quezon City know that it’s effectively an entire strip of wheel and tire shops. One shop that has withstood the test of time, though, is NCL Miller. Most of us recognize their location near the corner of West and EDSA, and 35 years since they first opened their doors, they’ve moved to a new and better location. So how did their name and brand weather the test of time?
As with any business, it’s best that its proprietor knows the rungs inside and out. Nelson H. Miller, the father of NCL came up with the idea of not just building, but growing a simple vulcanizing shop into a full-service car care center in 1985. Given his background as a Navigator in rally racing, Nelson knew the importance of tires, wheels, and proper maintenance and servicing to prolong a vehicle’s life. Three and a half decades hence, his dream has grown. With the help of his wife Carlota, they carved their brand, N.H. Miller Car Care Center, as a go-to tire shop. They later decided to incorporate the business with their children and rechristened their business to its name now: NCL Miller Car Care Center.
What have they done right all these years? A winning recipe to the business just needs a bit of fine-tuning, and by going with the times and technology, NCL Miller is out to service you and your needs for a couple more decades to come. But it hasn’t been easy.
Before the pandemic, the family had already mapped out their goals to be able to cater to an entire generation of families, enthusiasts, and even businesses who want the best for their fleets. As protocols would have it, they had to close their doors for business. That’s enough to not just shelf plans and ideas but to even give up. But with their following – private individuals, government fleets, hospitals, logistics companies, and even LGUs who’d try their luck by knocking on their shuttered doors – they knew that none of those was an option. In time, they were allowed to reopen their doors, but instead of playing catch-up, they put their customers’ convenience first. Italian and USA-made car, tire, and wheel care brands like Hunter, Corghi, and John Bean are also part of their offering.
The new location also allows NCL Miller to be a full-service shop. Their services include mechanical services such as vulcanizing, wheel alignment and balancing, camber correction, tire rotation, under-chassis repairs, oil changing, and body lifting.
In putting their customers first, patrons come to a shop with a total of twelve indoor plus outdoor parking slots that are safe and secure. While waiting for their service jobs to be finished, they can opt to relax in either an airconditioned lounge or chill in an open-air waiting area. Of course, it won’t bear NCL Miller’s trademark without free wifi and refreshments, right? Yes, drinks are still on the house!
