Ford have given up on sedans or hatchbacks in the Philippines, but that's not the case elsewhere.

Over in Europe, they have highly coveted performance models like Focus ST and Fiesta ST. In order to take things up a notch, the Blue Oval has released the 2021 Fiesta ST 'Edition' for “true performance driving enthusiasts”.

The 2021 Fiesta ST Edition is based on the standard Fiesta ST. What's different is that it will be limited to only 500 units. Furthermore, it will only be available in three-door guise for that proper hot hatchback feel. It is also finished in Azura Blue paint contrasted with gloss black and carbon fiber trim.

Apart from being a limited run model and having a rather proud paint job, it also gets an adjustable coil-over suspension from Ford Performance, allowing customers to adjust the ride height and even set damper adjustments to match their driving style.

Ford also fiddled with the steering to give a more direct driving feel. Lightweight 18-inch alloy wheels were fitted to save 2kg of unsprung weight and hide the larger brakes. A Quaife differential comes standard to match the new handling upgrades which were then tested and developed at the Nurburging Nordschleife.

It seems Ford focused on the handling bits of the Fiesta ST Edition instead of adding more power. Under the hood, it uses the same 1.5-liter turbocharged engine which produces 200 horsepower and 290 Nm torque. 0 to 100 km/h still takes 6.5 seconds and top speed is limited to 230 km/h.

“Our new Fiesta ST Edition squeezes even more excitement out of the best-handling compact hot-hatch on the road,” said Stefan Muenzinger, Ford Performance manager for Europe. “The Edition model puts drivers firmly in control with the ability to manually adjust the feel of their car and fine-tune the handling to suit their personal preference.”

As much as we want this Fiesta ST Edition or even the standard Fiesta ST to arrive in the Philippines, that is extremely unlikely. Still, we can't help but yearn for Ford to bring back some front-wheel drive excitement.
