It's almost time for one of the worlds premiere car shows to take the stage as the Frankfurt Auto Show is set to open its doors this September. Here is a quick run down of the cars, both production and concept, that you will get a glimpse of at the show.
AUDI URBAN CONCEPT
Truly unique amongst the upcoming concepts is the Audi Urban Concept car. It is truly an unconventional design piece with Sportback and Spyder variants, something that we are expected to see from companies like Rinspeed or the concepts from Citroen.
This 1+1 (staggered, like the Caparo T1) seat ultra light car has been designed by Audi to maximize maneuverability in congested urban spaces. The Urban Concept is propelled by two e-tron electric motors powerd by a lithium-ion battery.
No, this is not a parody of Nissan's luxury arm, but an entirely new luxury carmaker based out of London. There are no particular details yet, as even their official website has no more than just a short teaser and a rough sketch of their upcoming car, the Hemera crossover. Still, mystery is a great thing to have around when you're a new player in the market, and we look forward to what Eterniti will have to offer.
SSANGYONG XUV CONCEPT
Well, it's about time. Their cars have been the butt of many jokes, especially given the odd looks of models like the Rodius (Stavic), Actyon and Rexton, but not anymore. The launch of the SUT concept was truly a breath of fresh air for the brand, and with this silhouette of the new XUV concept bound for Frankfurt, I actually can't wait to see if they can follow up on their progress in design. Let's just hope the SUT in Geneva was no fluke.
KIA 4-DOOR SPORT SEDAN CONCEPT
Here's one that we should really be excited about. Kia is set to reveal a new concept car to signal the company's new (again) design direction with a 4-door, rear-wheel drive sports sedan concept. If the desing of Kia's new models (thanks to Peter Schreyer) over the past 2 years like the Sorento, Picanto, Forte and are any indication, the bar has been set quite high indeed. The Kia booth in Frankfurt will also have the 3-door version of the Rio and the refreshed Kia Soul.
JAGUAR C-X16 CONCEPT
Jaguar Cars will be revealing a new production concept car at Frankfurt with the C-X16. The design team is headed by Ian Callum and the new concept is a precursor to what Jaguar will be producing in the near future, emphasizing vehicle dynamics and technology. Only a sketch is available right now, though expect internet forums to be flooded with images as soon as the show opens.
There are many more new models to catch at Frankfurt, including the all new Porsche 911 (designated as the 991), the Volkswagen up! production car, the BMW i3, the all new BMW M5, the Subaru XV crossover, a new Mercedes B-Class as well as a new Lamborghini. Many specifics about these new cars are still being kept secret by their manufacturers, but as soon as we get word (not to mention the photos), we'll have them up and running on Autoindustriya.
