Features first rear-wheel drive X5
BMW has just previewed the all-new BMW X5, the third generation 'Sport Activity Vehicle' from BMW promised to set new standards for luxury, versatility and driving dynamics along with the new rear-wheel drive X5 sDriv35i.
The new X5 has a dynamic design that's in line with the BMW X model's distinct appearance. It features a short front overhang, long wheelbase, upright A-pillars, and a closer distance between its front wheel axle and the leading edge of the door. As usual, the signature BMW kidney grille, headlights and foglamps are present. New to the X5 is the Drag-reducing Air Curtains that guides the incoming air around the wheel arches leading it to the air breathers on the side of the front fenders.
Powering the all new models will be a variety of engines like the 300hp 3.0-liter TwinPower turbo engine for the X5 sDrive35i and the X5 xDrive 35i. The X5 xDrive 50i meanwhile features the latest 445hp 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 with a peak torque of 650Nm of torque and can send the X5 from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds. Lastly, the X5 xDrive 35d makes use of the new 3.0-liter VNT CRDI diesel engine from BMW that churns out 255 hp and a maximum torque of 559.32 Nm.
All models of the new X5 lineup makes use of an eight-speed automatic transmission, options for an eight-speed sport automatic transmission is also available and offers a new 'launch control' function.
The interior of the X5 utilizes three-dimensional design of the surfaces that results to a more elegant and spacious cabin. The infotainment system will be equipped with a freestanding 10.2-inch touchpad BMW Navigation system.
Owners of the new X5 has the option to install BMW's Dynamic Handling Package that includes Active Roll Stabilization, Dynamic Damper Control, and a rear-axle air suspension. For those that wants to add an element of individuality to the new X5, BMW offers several trim options like the Luxury Line, xLine, or M Sport, this will go side by side with the Ivory White or Mocha interior design package options.
The all-new 2013 BMW X5 is expected to go on sale during the fourth quarter of 2013 while the new X5 xDrive35d can be expected in early 2014.
