All new production cars to be revealed at Detroit
We're all excited for the upcoming North American International Auto Show, set to kick off the new year for the global auto industry. Here are just some of the major production car launches expected at the 2013 NAIAS.
Next for the marque with four rings will reportedly be the all new Audi RS7. Based off of the award winning Audi A7 Sportback the RS7 is a step up from the S7 already on sale in other markets. The RS7 will feature more aggressive vents, details, kit and stance, as well as a twin turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 with 552 PS, same as the recently launched RS6. Top speed is claimed to be at 306 km/h.
Chevrolet Corvette C7
They've been teasing us with the next generation Chevy Corvette, the C7, for a while now, and what better occasion to launch an American icon than at Detroit. Chevrolet has been able to conceal the actual look of the Corvette from spy photographers with cladding and camouflage, but what is known is that the 'vette will have a 3-rail aluminum spaceframe with magnesium components, carbon fiber panels (i.e. floor), and (perhaps) is powered by a 5.5 liter V8 with 400 PS.
For Infiniti, Nissan's luxury brand will be revealing the 2014 Q50, reportedly the replacement for the G37 coupe, and marks a naming realignment for the brand. The car has been thoroughly redesigned for the new model year with improvements all around.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Redesigned so soon? Yes, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will be launched at NAIAS with a mid cycle facelift. The Jeep Grand Cherokee will feature an updated design (as expected), along with engineering improvements like an 8-speed auto gearbox and better fuel efficiency.
Lexus IS Series
One thing that's truly exciting for Lexus is the launch of the all new IS. The current model in showrooms wasn't spindled (i.e. like the GS, CT, etc.), so expect the new model to prominently showcase the modern “phase” of the brand; expect it to share a lot of design cues from the LF-CC concept car. It will reportedly share the platform of the GS sedan as well as the 3.5 liter V6. The IS will also launch with a 2.5 liter V6 engine.
An undoubted star of NAIAS would definitely be the next generation Quattroporte. The Italian four door saloon will officially enter its 6th generation at Detroit, and will compete with the likes of the 7-Series and S-Class. The fully redesigned car will get a 3.0 liter V6 with 410 PS as well as a 3.8 liter V8 with twin turbos and direct injection for a whopping 530 horsepower. A V6 diesel option is also being reported to be in the works.
Mercedes will be debuting the much talked about CLA which, after much speculation about its form factor (sources mainly thought it to be a hatchback), will be revealed as a compact 4-door saloon to slot in under the C-Class. Photos have been leaked online, though it is unsure if those are actual or not. Expect a range of turbo engines fueled by either diesel or gasoline. A CLA 45 AMG is expected.
Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible
Bentley's newest open-top performance convertible, the Continental GT Speed Convertible will be making its international debut at the show as well, and is claimed to be the world's fastest four-seater convertible with a top speed of 325 km/h. It is powered by 6.0-liter W12 engine mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
