According to a source within the Toyota Motor Philippines camp, the next generation Toyota RAV4 is in the works, and is scheduled to arrive before the year is out.
This news means that Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation will cap off a 2012 that saw so many new models launched -both facelifts and all-new- with another. 2012 saw the arrival of the next generation Camry, upgraded versions of the IMV line and even the arrival of the Toyota 86.
Oddly enough it's a model they need, as the compact SUV/compact crossover segment is one where TMP never really captured the market with the current 3rd generation RAV4 given its high price point, the advent of the 7-seat pick-up based SUV (the Fortuner, et al) and the rise of competition from their Korean neighbors in the compact crossover class.
The RAV4 will be based on the Toyota Camry platform, so it is most likely that it will be powered by the 2.5L DOHC 16-valve Inline-4 VVT-i engine.
There are no official images of the all new 4th generation RAV4 yet, though there are some spy shots showing the RAV4 undergoing testing in the Middle East. It is likely that the new RAV4 might make its global debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
Pricing is key, so we'll see how the upcoming RAV will be priced given such strong competition from the Hyundai Tucson, the Kia Sportage and the new Honda CR-V. It will also be joined next year by the upcoming Mitsubishi Outlander previewed at the recent Philippine International Motor Show.
