Photos surface on the internet ahead of Tokyo global debut in November
The 2014 Honda Jazz or Fit for other markets, is set to debut at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show in November. Over the weekend, someone managed to get their hands on what seems to be like a brochure and snapped away from photos to give us a preview of the upcoming subcompact hatchback from Honda. Based on the watermarked characters, the source of the leak seems to be China. We gave the original photo a little tweak to straighten it as it appeared to be a bit skewed in the rear.
Design-wise the front fascia of the car looks very much like the Civic which indicates that Honda will also using a brand family look as seen with other manufacturers. It does however feature larger black patches that look like airdams in the front and rear bumpers. But based on the current generation Jazz, they just might be covered.
Engine-wise, it will debut the new direct-injection iVTEC 'Earth Dreams' engine mated to a new ‘G-Design Shift’ CVT that is supposedly 15% more efficient. Engine and transmission options for the ASEAN market remains to be seen. In terms of safety, it will feature a class-first City-Brake Active System similar to the Active City Safety pioneered by Volvo.
There will be a hybrid version available which features a new Atkinson cycle motor combined with a 1.5-liter engine and mated to a new 7-speed ‘Sport Hybrid Intelligent’ dual-clutch automatic transmission. We might have to wait a little more in the Philippines for a ‘green car bill’ to be passed before we can see the hybrid version of the new Jazz.
As to when it will actually arrive in our market remains a question. Honda Cars Philippines has been slow to release new models. It has yet to release the 2013 Honda Accord that made its ASEAN debut earlier this year. It is rumored that it will have a very late release towards the end of 2013, November to be exact.
