2014 Indonesia International Motor Show

While the 5th Philippine International Motor Show was ongoing at the World Trade Center in Manila, our ASEAN neighbor likewise opened the 2014 edition of the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) in Jakarta.

The 2014 IIMS was the 22nd edition of the show, and became a “festival of automotive and motoring extravaganza” with 15 new model launches within 120,000 square meters of space. The 2014 IIMS is the largest automotive trade show in South East Asia.

According to GAIKINDO (Indonesia's automotive industry association) 36 member brands took part in the exhibition along with 286 supporting industries. From the above 36 brands, 29 are passenger car brands participating which included Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Daihatsu, Datsun, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Jaguar, Jeep, KIA, Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, MINI, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, smart, Subaru, Suzuki, Tata Motors, Toyota and Volkswagen. Seven commerical vehicle companies also showcased their wares, namely FAW, Hino, Isuzu, Mitsubishi FUSO, Tata Motors, Toyota Dyna, and UD Trucks.

The IIMS served as the launch of the Honda HR-V crossover (otherwise known as the Vezel), the Mitsubishi Delica and the Infiniti Q50 sedan. These, among others, are the production models that made their debut in Indonesia.

There were also plenty of concept cars at the show, headlined by the Toyota FT-1 Concept as well as the Honda NSX Concept. Joining them are the Toyota FV2 and FCV-1, the Subaru Viziv, the Daihatsu Ultra Functional Compact 3, Cross-over Utility Vehicle 2, Sport Utility Vehicle and the Ayla GT2, the Mitsubishi AR Concept, the Suzuki Hustler, the Datsun Redi-GO and the Tata Nexon and Zest.

Indonesia has one of the most robust automotive industry sales in the ASEAN region. Sales in the last 7 years showed an average growth of 23.4 percent, with the country registering 1,229,811 units in 2013.
