EPA gives the 2014 Mazda3 the nod
SkyActiv works, and it seems the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency agrees after giving the recently revealed 2014 Mazda3 the official nod as it achieved 40 miles per gallon on the highway. In metric, that's 17 kilometers per liter.
In the EPA report, the 2014 Mazda3 Hatchback, equipped with the 2.0 liter SkyActiv-G inline-4 engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission achieved 30 mpg in the city (12.75 km/l), 40 mpg on the highway (17.00 km/l) and 33 mpg combined (14.02 km/l).
The 2014 Mazda3 Hatchback with the same engine but with a manual transmission achieved nearly identical figures with 29 mpg in the city (12.33 km/l), but the same 40 mpg on the highway and the same 33 mpg combined.
All the fuel economy ratings for the 2014 Mazda3 hatchback are higher than the previous model.
