Four generations of off-road supremacy
LRPhilippines, the official distributor of Land Rover in the country, has just launched the all new Range Rover last night at the Land Rover Activity Centre in Bonifacio Global City. The launch event was headed by LRP executives with Willie Soong (Chairman and President), Marc Soong (Managing Director) and Jason Soong (Managing Director), as well as VIP clients and press.
The launch of the all new Range Rover marks the arrival of the 4th generation of the nameplate. The Range Rover made its debut with the first gen model in 1970; a model that was produced from 1970 all the way up to 1996, establishing the longevity of the Range Rover brand. The second generation model followed in 1994 (concurrently produced with the classic RR) up to 2002, and dialled up the luxury of the name. The third generation model was sold from 2002 to 2012,
Exterior design and dimensions
The all new Range Rover features the signature look the brand has been known for; boxy, dignified and classy. Unlike before, the Range Rover can actually be classified a crossover, meaning it is constructed around a monocoque body as opposed to the body-on-frame format as the previous 3 generations. The body is also constructed entirely of aluminum.
The Range Rover measures 4999mm long and 2220mm wide. As before, the Range Rover rides on a variable ride height air suspension system. Standard height is 1835mm, with a ground clearance of 220.5mm. With the suspension set to the highest setting, ground clearance increases to 295.5mm, and allows the RR to wade in waters 900mm deep, or about 3 feet deep.
Interior design and features
The Range Rover features the ultimate in SUV luxury and refinement. The new Range Rover's interior can be specified in two colors; a primary color and a complementary/secondary color. Wood veneers can also be specified. Customers can also specify to have the standard 2nd row seats or the Executive Class seating package for two.
For features, the RR gets a full suite of power amenities, a dual view touch screen, a panoramic moonroof, Terrain Response 2 (automatically alters the drive settings for the terrain), active park assist (self parking feature) and the aforementioned electronic air suspension.
Powertrain and suspension
The all new Range Rover can be specified with any of four engines. For the diesel range, customers can opt for the 3.0L TDV6 and the 4.4L SDV8. The V6 diesel produces 258 PS and 600 Newton meters of torque while the V8 diesel makes 339 PS and 700 Newton meters of torque.
For the gasoline range, customers can get the 5.0L V8 or a 5.0L Supercharged V8. The naturally aspirated V8 makes 375 PS and 510 Newton meters while the Supercharged version makes 510 PS and 625 Newton meters.
The TDV6 comes with an intelligent start/stop system, while all are fitted with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Range Rover's prices start at PhP 9.5M, and will go up depending on how clients customize their vehicles.
