Mercedes-Benz revealed the full engine details of the upcoming 2015 AMG GT. The automaker says their Porsche 911 challenger will be equipped with a new innovative and efficient engine.
The AMG GT will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine that delivers 510 PS at 6,250 rpm with 650 Nm of torque between 1,750 rpm and 4,750 rpm.
The automaker codenamed the engine as M178 that features a compact design and a dry weight of 209 kg. Mercedes-Benz says it is infused with lightweight pistons and twin overhead camshafts.
The flow-optimized cylinder heads have zirconium alloy that gives optimal temperature and thermal conductivity. The cylinder wall is incorporated with a nano-slide coating to diminish friction losses.
Moreover, the automaker says the engine does not require conventional oil pans due to the dry sump lubrication technology.
